Empowering African Farmers: Solar Irrigation Project Expands to Kenya and Ethiopia
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has launched the second phase of its SoLAR project,
expanding solar-powered agriculture initiatives to Kenya and Ethiopia. This phase aims to strengthen climate
resilience, reduce emissions, and boost food security by addressing gaps in policy, financing, and farmer
training. In East Africa, the project supports smallholder farmers by promoting solar irrigation and processing
systems that improve yields and lower costs. Strategic partnerships and community-led innovations will play
a key role in scaling sustainable agriculture across diverse African farming contexts.
