Ethiopia Unveils Second-Phase Agricultural Commercialization Program to Boost Crop Productivity and Climate Resilience

Ethiopia’s Agricultural Milestones Take Center Stage in East Africa’s Push for Food Security

Ethiopia has launched the second phase of its agricultural commercialization effort, the Agricultural Commercialization through Climate-Smart and Inclusive Innovations (ACCII) program, building on lessons from the first phase while prioritizing climate-smart and inclusive practices. Agriculture Minister Addisu Arega noted that ACC I reached 4.4 million farmers, with 2.5 million adopting cluster farming, contributing 11% of agricultural GDP, and emphasized that farmer ownership and discipline remain essential to success. The expanded program aims to reach 6.5 million farmers across nine regions, strengthening market linkages, agro processing, and value addition. ACCII seeks to boost resilience and accountability across institutions to address climate variability, rising food prices, and land fragmentation while advancing Ethiopia’s broader rural transformation.
