Ethiopia Forms Specialty Coffee Association to Boost Quality, Traceability, and Exports

Ethiopia’s Agricultural Milestones Take Center Stage in East Africa’s Push for Food Security

A group of Ethiopian coffee leaders has launched the Specialty Coffee Association of Ethiopia (SCAE) to drive growth in the country’s specialty coffee sector through a new program, Best of Ethiopia. Founded by Ashenagi Argaw, Faysel Abdoshi, Kenean Assefa, and award-winning producer Tamru Tadessa, the association aims to improve quality, traceability, and global recognition for Ethiopian producers. Ethiopia’s specialty coffee momentum is reflected in record results, including a US$1,739/kg lot sold by Alo Coffee and exports reaching 470,000 tons worth over US$2.6 billion in 2025. The launch was officially marked in Addis Ababa with senior government officials in attendance, underlining strong national support for the sector.
