China-Africa Alliance Drives Agricultural Transformation with Six New Innovation Projects
China and Africa have deepened their agricultural partnership through the China-Africa Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance (CAASTIA), which launched a three-year plan (2027–2030) and six major agricultural projects in Addis Ababa. The initiative focuses on technology transfer, capacity building, and climate-smart innovation in key areas like rice, maize, and local cash crops. Ethiopia, a key partner, will host four sub projects emphasizing productivity and training under new bilateral agreements with China. With expanded cooperation—ranging from disease control labs to coffee trade and digital agriculture the alliance signals a shift from traditional aid toward sustainable, innovation-led development across Africa’s agri-food systems.
