Coffee Revival Gains Momentum in Kenya
Efforts to revive coffee farming are gaining traction across Kenya, with Taita Taveta County identified as a key focus area in the government’s broader push to restore the sector. A farmer sensitisation forum in Wundanyi, led by Cabinet Secretary for Co operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Wycliffe Oparanya, highlighted plans to reopen dormant coffee zones, strengthen cooperative societies, and improve farmer earnings. In partnership with the New Kenya Planters Co operative Union, the initiative promotes better agronomic practices, sustainable production systems, and stronger local and international market linkages. Supported by nationwide reforms to improve inputs, extension services, and pricing systems, the programme aims to boost export competitiveness.
