Kenya Moves to Strengthen Coffee Industry with New Law
Kenya has passed a new Coffee Act aimed at improving how the industry is managed and supported. The law creates the Coffee Board of Kenya to handle licensing, collect market data, and guide development across the sector. It also introduces a 2.5% levy on coffee exports and imports to fund growth, marketing, and key industry programs. In addition, a new research and training institute will help farmers improve production and adopt better farming methods. These changes are expected to bring more order to the sector and strengthen Kenya’s position in the global coffee market.
